Cupping is not one fixed technique. There are different forms, each with its own feeling, application and intensity. Some are soft and relaxing, while others are firmer and more focused on specific tension areas.

At Masseur Joost, wet cupping is not offered. The cupping used here is dry, massage-focused cupping as an addition to relaxation and muscle-oriented treatment.

1. Dry cupping

Dry cupping is the best-known form in massage practices. Cups are placed on the skin without cuts, blood or medical procedures. The cup creates suction, gently lifting skin and connective tissue.

2. Dynamic cupping

With dynamic cupping, the cup is moved over the skin, usually with oil so it can glide calmly. It feels like a deep massage, but with a pulling rather than pushing movement.

3. Silicone cupping

Silicone cups are flexible and create suction by being squeezed by hand. They are often slightly softer and easier to dose, making them suitable for first-time cupping clients.

4. Pump cupping

Pump cups build suction with a small pump. This makes the intensity very adjustable: lighter where needed, firmer where the body can handle it.

5. Fire cupping

Fire cupping uses heat to create suction in a glass cup. Although it is well known, fire is not necessary for a good cupping massage. Modern cups can be used safely and precisely.

6. Wet cupping / hijama

Wet cupping, also called hijama, involves small cuts in the skin and drawing out blood. This is an invasive procedure and belongs with practitioners specifically trained for it.

Masseur Joost does not offer wet cupping or hijama. The cupping massage here is dry, massage-focused and intended to support relaxation and reduce muscle tension.

Which form suits you?

That depends on your body, your experience and where you feel tension. During the intake we discuss what feels right and how intense the treatment may be.
